As 2024 came to a close, Elaine and Kevin rang in the New Year not just with fireworks and fizz, but with wedding bells and boxing gloves. I had the absolute pleasure of designing a unique and playful caricature for their New Year’s Eve wedding at the beautiful Hotel Minella, and it turned out to be one of the most fun and personalised projects I’ve worked on.

The design concept I developed was full of humour and character At the centre of the illustration, I placed Elaine and Kevin inside a boxing ring, both wearing one boxing glove each. Elaine was holding a glass of Champagne, while Kevin, is holding his mobile phone taking a selfie.

Outside the ring stand their three children, each adding their own personality to the scene. Their youngest daughter held a sign that read, “Let’s Get Ready to Rumble – 31st December 2024,” setting the tone for the celebration. Their son wears a smart suit paired with Nike Air Max, clutching his iPad, a perfect representation of his modern cool. Meanwhile, the eldest daughter holds a pink handbag and her beloved Jelly Cat rabbit, a sweet detail that captured her essence perfectly. In the background, I drew the elegant Hotel Minella which is in Clonmel County Tipperary and the River Suir, adding a personal and location-specific touch to the artwork.

The caricature was used in two different ways. For the wedding invitation cards, I kept the bride’s dress plain to keep guest guessing and the brides dress secret. These invitations were square in size and printed on high-quality card, each paired with a crisp white envelope. For the guest signing board, however, I took things a step further. Elaine had sent me a photograph of her actual wedding dress, and I carefully recreated it in the caricature, adding a level of realism and sentimentality that made the artwork even more special on the big day.

Designing for Elaine and Kevin was an absolute joy. Their wedding caricature was bursting with personality and warmth, and it was incredibly rewarding to see how art and storytelling could bring their love, humour, and family spirit to life. It was the perfect way to wrap up 2024—with creativity, celebration, and a whole lot of heart.
