Back in March, I had the pleasure of creating a truly unique caricature design for Cliona and Ray’s wedding guest signing board. It was a commission full of personality, family love, and many dogs. Exactly the kind of work I love doing.

Cliona and Ray wanted something special that reflected their life together, and it was clear from the start that this piece would be full of character. They have two children, they love farming, and perhaps most impressively they have 11 dogs and they wanted them all included. Naturally, each one of those dogs found a place in the final illustration.

I drew Cliona and Ray wearing their wedding attire. Cliona emailed a photograph of her wedding dress and I recreated it for the design. I drew their daughter in a fuchsia pink dress gently patting one of the dogs an the head and their son sitting in a blue tractor. In the background a recreated some fields of green, brown and gold in the hills.

To make the artwork even more personal, I included a small hidden detail just for Ray. I was told he’s a hunting man (hence so many dogs), so in the background, you will find a sneaky little fox giving a cheeky wave, adding a playful nod, a bit of humour and fun storytelling to the scene.

These are the types of commissions I truly enjoy: capturing not just the likeness of people and their pets, but the spirit of their lives and the little in-jokes that mean the most to them. A guest signing board like this becomes more than a keepsake, it becomes part of the day, a talking point, and a lasting memory.
